CompX Timberline (TA series) lock cores are removed differently than standard lock cores.
🔑 How to Remove a CompX Timberline (TA Series) Lock Core
Follow these steps carefully:
- Turn the lock to the unlocked position
- Use your normal key
- Turn the lock fully clockwise until it is unlocked
- Insert the control key
- Remove the normal key
- Insert your control key into the lock
- Rotate the control key
- Turn the key 90 degrees clockwise
- At this point, it may feel like the lock has stopped
- Pull the lock plug
- The lock core should release and pop out

- It may feel like the lock won’t turn any further — this is normal
- Apply steady pressure to complete the final turn
- Some users find it helpful to use pliers for extra grip
- The core will not release until the full turning sequence is completed
