Why Can’t I Remove My CompX Timberline Lock Core?

CompX Timberline (TA series) lock cores are removed differently than standard lock cores.

🔑 How to Remove a CompX Timberline (TA Series) Lock Core

Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Turn the lock to the unlocked position
    • Use your normal key
    • Turn the lock fully clockwise until it is unlocked
  2. Insert the control key
    • Remove the normal key
    • Insert your control key into the lock
  3. Rotate the control key
    • Turn the key 90 degrees clockwise
    • At this point, it may feel like the lock has stopped
  4. Pull the lock plug
    • The lock core should release and pop out

⚠️ Important Tips

  • It may feel like the lock won’t turn any further — this is normal
  • Apply steady pressure to complete the final turn
  • Some users find it helpful to use pliers for extra grip
  • The core will not release until the full turning sequence is completed

🧰 If the Core Still Won’t Come Out

  • Try using a lock lubricant (WD-40 or graphite)
  • Insert and remove the key a few times to loosen the mechanism
  • Then repeat the steps above
